Young Hollywood starlet Peg Entwistle gained notoriety in 1932 when she committed suicide by jumping off of the “H” of the Hollywood[land] sign. She was 24. Her only credited film role was in RKO’s Thirteen Women (1932), a pre-Hays Code, high-budget thriller produced by David O. Selznick.
The suicide note as published read:

“I am afraid, I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E.”
